A 12-episode podcast series on the transformation of cybernetics from a science of control into a science of participation. Three acts: the founding generation and its tools (Wiener, Shannon, Ashby, the Macy Conferences), the paradigm shift (von Foerster, Spencer Brown, Maturana and Varela, Pask, Bateson), and what these ideas mean now for governance, complexity science, and AI.
Cybernetics is a field I came across recently that ties together ideas from biology, philosophy, computation, and social theory in ways I hadn't seen before. This series is an attempt to make that tradition accessible. Episodes are kept concise (~15 minutes each), narrated using the Kokoro TTS model, and the scripts are AI-generated but with careful research and editing to keep them substantive rather than slop.
